‘DEAR SURVIVOR’ is a track made by and for survivors. A reminder that survival is a fierce and powerful act. It features the words, lyrics and voices of survivors from the Sistah Space community. Sistah Space is a resource for African heritage women and girls who’ve experienced domestic or sexual abuse, or who have lost a loved one to domestic violence.
The track began as a conversation with Rose Lewis, co-founder of Sistah Space, Stephanie Singer of Bitter Suite and Jemma Foster at Wild Alchemy Lab. We asked survivors within the Sistah Space community to respond personally to their relationship with the fire element and the prompt “dear survivor remember you are powerful..."
Stephanie and Tanya Auclair set these words, including the lyric
‘THE HEAT FROM MY HANDS GIVES ME POWER’ to music, and worked collaboratively with survivors from Sistah Space to record the final track: ‘DEAR SURVIVOR’.
